An 18-year-old Form Three student in Lamu was on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, arrested by police after he was accused of stabbing a Form Four student to death.

The suspect who is currently cooling his heels in police custody is said to have stabbed his victim, Mohamed Bakari, 20, when he visited a friend at Faza Secondary School.

He was at the Form Three block when the accused stabbed him from the back killing him on the spot.

Consequently, the school was closed indefinitely and the learners were released to go home until further notice.

"We have decided to close the school until further notice. The incident is unfortunate. It's my prayer that normalcy will return to Faza so that the institution can reopen for learning, possibly in a week," Lamu Director of Education Joshua Kaaga said.

According to police, the suspect was arrested from his hideout in Tchundwa village.

Lamu police commander William Samoei noted that the suspect will be arraigned in court where he will answer to murder charges.

"We will take him to court anytime to be charged with murder," Samoei stated.

The deceased was buried later that same day in a quiet ceremony that was heavily guarded.
