Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria now says that the prices of some commodities have started going down thanks to the concerted efforts of President William Ruto.

Taking to his official Twitter account, the outspoken CS listed a number of precious commodities that he says their prices have been lowered since Ruto took over.

He noted that the development was proof that Ruto's government was fighting tooth and nail to ensure that the cost of living in the country was stabilized.

Notably, Kuria announced that a bag of Maize had dropped from Ksh5,600 to Ksh4,900.

"Basic Commodities Price Movement since we started conversation on the cost of living. Over the last 3 days Maize has dropped from Ksh 5,600 to Ksh 4,900 per bag a drop of 11.5," the CS wrote.

He also noted that the price of sugar had reduced from Ksh7,200 per bag to Ksh5,800 and edible oil had reduced from Ksh340 per bag to Ksh280 per bag.

"Sugar Down from Ksh 7,200 to Ksh 5,800 today per 50Kg bag a decrease of 18%. Edible Oil from Ksh 340 to Ksh 280 per kg a decrease of 22%. We are heading somewhere," the CS remarked.

Kuria's claim comes amidst hue and cry from Kenyans over the high cost of living. Fuel and maize flour are among the notable commodities whose prices have skyrocketed sparking an outcry among Kenyans.

Since his ascendancy to power, President William Ruto has, for umpteenth times, assured Kenyans that his government will enact viable measures that will see the lowering of prices of Unga and other essential commodities.

Ruto asks for time

Ruto on Tuesday, October 25 said the country needs at least one year to stabilize the cost of living.

Speaking during a groundbreaking of 4054 affordable housing units in Kibera, Ruto said the production sector in the country had been neglected for four years and it will take him up to one year to remedy the situation.

"I told you we must reduce the cost of living and Unga and that journey of doing it has started. I have already reduced the cost of fertilizer," Ruto told Kibera residents.

"We have given our farmers 1.5 million bags of fertilizers and we are planning to give them another six million to increase the production of food. This will make the cost of unga come down. Those who increased the cost of unga to Ksh230 did it in four years, but just give me one year to rectify it," he added.
