KRA officials charged with aiding vacation of Ksh9.9 million tax obligation

Two KRA officials were on Thursday charged before Milimani Law courts with aiding and abetting illegal vacation of assessment for a tax obligation of Ksh9.9 million.

Dickens Otura Olwala and Jackline Moraa Nyabuto were arraigned before Magistrate Wandia Nyamu where they denied six counts of evasion of tax-related charges.

Olwala was separately charged for causing KRA losses after masquerading as an authority and aiding the illegal vacation of Ksh9.9 million tax obligation on diverse dates between October 2021 and June 2022.

He was also charged with causing a system to perform a function by infringing security measures with the intent to gain access hence vacating tax assessments amounting to Ksh 9.9 million from KRA.

Olwala was also charged with acquiring and using money which was the proceeds of the crime he had committed.

Moraa on the other hand was charged for acting in breach of her duty under tax law by facilitating vacation of assessments raised in the system by the commissioner of domestic taxes for a tax obligation of Ksh80.9 million raised for various companies on diverse dates between October 2021 and June 2022.

The magistrate ordered the duo to be released on a cash bail of Ksh250,000 and Ksh100,000 respectively.
