KNH to dispose of 541 unclaimed bodies in seven days

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has released the list of unclaimed bodies at their facility.

The list of 541 unclaimed persons comprises 475 babies and 66 adults, of the adult bodies, seven are female while the other 59 are male.

KNH appealed to the public to claim the bodies within seven days failure to which the facility will seek authority from the courts to dispose of them.

"Pursuant to Public Health Act Cap 242, interested members of the public are therefore requested to identify and collect the bodies within seven days, failure to which the hospital will seek authority from the courts to dispose of them," KNH said.

"Kenyatta National Hospital is in possession of a number of unclaimed bodies at its farewell home."

Similar announcement

In January, KNH announced plans to dispose of unclaimed bodies within a week.

Issuing the notice, the hospital which noted that it was acting in compliance with the Public Health Act Cap 242 Subsidiary legislation Public Health Public Mortuaries rules, 1991, said it had several unclaimed bodies lying at their funeral home.

"Interested members of the public are therefore requested to identify and collect the bodies within seven days, failure to which the hospital will seek authority from the courts to dispose them," the hospital said.

This came months after a similar announcement by the Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary.

In their announcement made in September last year, the facility through the government announced plans to dispose of 31 unclaimed bodies.
