Ailing Kenyans will now find reprieve after the Kenyatta National Hospital launched the 'Adopt a patient' initiative.

The initiative which was officially launched by the Spouse of the Prime Cabinet Secretary Tessie Mudavadi on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, will enable well-wishers to support struggling patients who have accrued huge hospital bills.

"We want to start adopting families especially people who can't pay their bills. We will be working near NHIF to ensure the programme is sustainable," KNH chief executive officer Evanson Kamuri said.

So far, the hospital indicated that 42 patients were identified for adoption through a collaboration with Ushiriki Wema and Ahadi Kenya.

The hospital's management acknowledged that the hospital was burdened with bills that accrue to more than Ksh8 billion. The amount recorded came from patients who were unable to pay their bills.
