Kisumu woman caught on camera assaulting her neighbour’s housemaid arraigned in court

A Kisumu woman who was captured on camera assaulting her neighbour's house girl in a video that went viral on social media has been arraigned before a Kisumu court.

The accused, Grace Aketch, was charged with the offence of causing actual bodily harm on Beryl Achieng.

In the video that went viral on the social media, Aketch who is the head of Gender Based Violence at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching And Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), was seen slapping the complainant leaving her with injuries in her body.

She accused Achieng of trespassing into her compound and had hanging her employers clothes in her balcony. Aketch argued that water from the wet clothes was dripping inside her house.

When they had gone to report the matter at Mamboleo police post, the complainant and her employer were shocked to be informed that the accused person had already reported the incident.

According to court documents, the accused is said to have committed the offence contrary to section 251 of the penal code.

The court heard that on the October 24, 2021 at Mamboleo area, Aketch assaulted the complainant leaving her with bruises in some parts of her body.

While appearing before Winam law courts Senior resident magistrate Chrispine Oruo, she pleaded not guilty to the charge pressed against her.

The magistrate released her on a cash bail of sh.10,000 with an alternative bond of sh.30,000.

"I therefore release you on a bond bond of sh.30,000," the magistrate ruled.

The prosecution says it has lined up 5 witnesses to testify before court.

The matter will be heard on March 2,2022.
