A middle-aged man was on Monday morning arraigned before a Kisumu court and charged with defilement.
John Ooko appeared before Winam Law Court's Senior Resident Magistrate Chrispine Oruo for defiling a 15-year-old minor.
He was allegedly charged with the offence contrary to section 8(1) as read with section 8(3) of the sexual offences Act No 3 of 2006.
The court heard that Ooko defiled the minor on the diverse dates between the month of May 2021 and March 2022 at Forems area in Kondele, Kisumu Central sub-county.
That he intentionally caused his penis to penetrate the anus of L.O.O a child aged 15 years.
In the alternative charge, the accused was charged with committing an indecent act with a child contrary to section 11(1) of the sexual offences Act No 3 of 2006
"John Ooko Omware on the diverse dates between the month of May 2021 and the month of March 2022 at Forems in Kondele intentionally touched the anus of L.O.O a child of 15 years with his penis," the charge sheet read in part.
He however pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him and was released on a bond of Ksh300,000.
"The accused may be released on a bond of Ksh.300,000 and I also order that he be supplied with a witness statement," said the magistrate.
The prosecution has also lined up 5 witnesses to testify before the court.
The case will come up for mention on June 13 and will be heard on August 2.
