A 39-year-old man from Muhoroni in Kisumu County went blind on Friday, October 4, after consuming illicit alcohol known locally as “skirt”.

Kisumu County police commander, Benson Maweu, said another victim was admitted at a Muhoroni hospital in critical condition.

"A group of young men went on a drinking spree at a pub in Muhoroni, where they binged on the illegal alcohol. One of them, a matatu tout identified as James Odongo, woke up blind Friday morning," Maweu told K24 Digital.

"Skirt" is a type of outlawed alcohol sold in transparent sachets.
