Kisumu County Assembly’s acting Speaker, Elisha Oraro, has resigned as the Kisumu North Ward MCA ahead of election scheduled for Friday, January 24.

The County Assembly invited applications for the post last week.

Oraro, who was electing acting Speaker last year after 42 ward representatives impeached former Speaker Onyango Oloo, said he resigned to contest for the post.

He will face off with Ken Amondi, a lawyer, who has also declared interest in the seat.

The law requires an MCA who intends to vie for the position to officially resign his or her seat.

Amondi is expected to present his papers on Tuesday while Oraro said he will submit his on Wednesday.
