The Kisii County Assembly was on Friday afternoon razed by fire.

The cause of the inferno remains unknown.

“The chambers is completely damaged,” Kisii County Governor James Ongwae told K24 Digital.

“We are going to launch investigations very soon. I have ordered that the place be completely sealed off. I am getting in touch with Nairobi so that we can get experts to establish what caused the fire,” he added.

“It is only the chambers that has been affected; the office of the Speaker and other key offices are intact. Our initial suspicion [on what caused the fire], is an electrical problem. We have several [electronic] machines in the chambers. I am aware that there were no crucial documents in the chambers when the fire broke out.

“The response time of our fire department was commendable. They arrived here in three minutes, and within 15 minutes, they had already put out the inferno. Had they delayed, even my office would have been razed down.”
