Police in Kirinyaga County have arrested a 28-year-old man accused of sodomizing a seven-year-old boy in Ngariama ward Gîchûgû Constituency.

Confirming the incident, Kirinyaga East Subcounty police Commander Antony Mbogo said that the incident took place yesterday while the young boy was going home from school.

"He is a grade 2 pupil, and he was sodomized on his way home from school,"Mbogo said

The suspect was then arrested by area chief and handed over to the police.

"After he learnt about the incident, the area chief swung into action and arrested the suspect before he forwarded him to the police," Mbogo said

Mbogo has therefore advised parents to escort their children while going to school especially in the morning hours to protect them from falling in the hands of sexual predators.

"I'd like to request parents to always accompany such children when they are leaving school so that we won't be having such incidents," the police Commander said adding that incidents of defilement within Kirinyaga East have been on the rise in the recent past.
