Shock and grief have engulfed Kiamugumo sub-location in Ngariama ward of Gîchûgû Constituency, Kirinyaga county following the murder of an Assistant Chief.

Denis Magu, 36, is said to have been murdered in cold blood by his wife during a domestic quarrel Wednesday night at around 9:00 pm.

The government official died on his way to the hospital.

The body was later taken to Kerugoya Level 4 hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

The suspect has since been arrested and detained at the Kianyaga police station as police launch investigations.

According to the Assistant Chief's mother Rose Njeru, Magu and his wife have never been involved in a domestic tussle in their 14 years of marriage.

"I was with them at their house right before the 9:00 pm news started and we prayed together before I left," Rose Njeru, said.

Njeru says that after a short while, she heard the wife of the assistant chief calling her and upon return to the house she found him lying on the floor bleeding profusely.

"I wondered what could have gone wrong when I heard her call me and when went back, I got shocked at the bloody scene, I couldn't believe my eyes," she said.

She adds, "I asked her, Mama Wayne what happened? You could have talked to me. She said that she had not realized how it all happened because she was cleaning utensils."

However, Rose said that they have started to prepare for the send-off of her son while the police carry out investigations on the matter.

"As a family, we have decided we are at peace with whatever has happened because even if we decided to have a case with the suspect we might never know what transpired between the two since one party is already gone," she said.
