Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker David Githanda has resigned effective August 15.
Mr Githanda tendered his resignation on Tuesday to Governor Anne Waiguru, citing personal reasons.
“I wish to thank Governor Anne Waiguru, all county assembly members, the Clerk of the County Assembly and members of staff for their cooperation during the period I served as Speaker and Chair of the County Assembly Service Board,” Mr. Gathanda said.

He said he would like to give the assembly enough time to search for his replacement to ensure a smooth transition.
Gathanda took office on February 2018.
