Outgoing Meru governor, Kiraitu Murungi has landed a new role as a member of the Kenya Law Reform Commission (KLRC).
He was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and sworn in by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
Kiraitu who is expected to serve as a member of the body for six years was sworn in alongside law scholar Musili Wambua and lawyer Duncan Okello.
KLRC is a government commission established to keep under review all the laws of Kenya to ensure their systematic development and reform.
Kiraitu loses Meru Governor's seat
His new appointment comes barely a day after he lost the Meru governor's seat to independent candidate Kawira Mwangaza.
In the contest, Mwangaza trounced Kiraitu after she garnered 209,158 votes against Kiraitu's 110,850 votes.
This marked a historical loss for the seasoned Meru politician who had never lost an election since 1992.
Kiraitu who was defending the seat on a Devolution Party of Kenya (DPK) ticket is among the longest-serving elected leaders in the country.
His political journey traces back to 1992 when he was elected as Imenti South Member of Parliament.
