A Kiambu woman suspected of murdering her two children was on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, arraigned in court but didn't take plea.

Mary Mukami is suspected of having either killed or participated in the macabre murder of her two kids late last week.

The seemingly remorseful suspect is the mother of the late Brian Kinyanjui, 7, and Elizabeth Wambui, 3, who were found murdered in her house in Kerwa, Kikuyu sub-county last Saturday night December 24, 2022.

Mukami was presented before the Kikuyu Law Court's Senior Resident Magistrate Catherine Mburu with the prosecution led by the Investigating Officer Paul Mworia making a miscellaneous application to detain her in order to complete investigations.

The magistrate approved the application and now the matter will be mentioned on January 17, 2023, with the suspect being detained at the Kikuyu police station.

The mysterious murder of the siblings elicited sharp reactions among the residents of Kerwa who bayed for the suspect's blood before she was arrested.

According to the Kikuyu OCPD Catherine Ringera, police officers who were called to the scene after the bizarre incident discovered the boy's body with his hands tied behind his back and while his head was immersed in a bucket of water.

The little girl faced the same wrath of the killer as her lifeless body was also found in the same room.

On Sunday, the police boss said, "While the information on the murders is limited, the children's mother has been arrested and is assisting police with their investigations. "

She added, “So far hatujajua nani ametenda hii kitendo but tunajua tukiwa na nyinyi watu wa hapa mtatupatia habari ili tuweze kufanya uchunguzi."

According to Ringera, the children's father was away at the time of the incident.

Baba watoto ndio aliniita akaniambia, ebu kuja uone watoto wangu wameuliwa,” a neighbour John Kinyanjui recounted.

Nikaona kweli ni watoto wawili wameuliwa, mmoja ako kwa ndoo ndani kwa choo na mwingine amelala akiwa amefungwa mkono," he added.

According to neighbours, the children's mother claimed she was attacked by two men who knocked on her door before striking her down.

She claimed that she was able to flee, but when she returned, she discovered that her two children had been killed and their bodies were in water buckets.
