Two-term senator Kimani Wamatangi has been presented with the election certificate after winning the hotly contested Kiambu gubernatorial race.

Wamatangi was presented with his certificate by County Returning Officer Anold Mutwiri a few minutes before 1 am on Saturday morning.

The Kiambu governor-elect garnered 348,370 votes ahead of his closest opponent Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina 'Jungle' who managed 237,361 votes.

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo of the Tujibebe party got 106,980 votes to take the third position.

Incumbent Kiambu Governor James Nyoro of Jubilee came fourth with 99,562 votes, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria of Chama Cha Kazi finished fifth with 25,512 votes.

Mwende Gatabaki of Safina party and Independent Candidate Agnes Ndung'u managed 4,674 and 1,264 votes to finish sixth and seventh respectively.
