Police have launched a manhunt for a man believed to have murdered his girlfriend before dumping the body at Mburiria estate, Kiambu County.

The deceased, Purity Wangechi Kiringa 19 and a student at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC), was murdered by her boyfriend only identified as VDJ Flex on Friday night.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the body had visible stab wounds and strangulation marks, and it is believed she was killed elsewhere and her body dumped at the scene.

“Bloodstained bedding, clothes and Purity’s identification documents were among the items recovered,” the DCI said.

Preliminary investigations by crime scene detectives established that the deceased left college on Friday, to visit her boyfriend who lives in Kirigiti, Kiambu county.

According to her friends who were interviewed by the detectives at the college, Purity and the boyfriend recently had a misunderstanding, after she discovered that he was a thug and confronted him with the facts.

“Detectives from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) have been dispatched this evening on a mission to hunt down the suspect who has gone under, within the shortest time possible,” the DCI said.

Meanwhile, the teenager’s body was moved to the City mortuary, pending an autopsy to determine the actual cause of death and provide more clues on the authors of the murder.

According to the police, there has been an increase in intimate partner killings across the country. Last month, two men who killed their spouses in separate incidents were arrested in separate incidents.

Most of these killings and violence are perpetrated by men who are in family or intimate partner relationships.
