Jubilee Party candidate in the Kiambaa by-election Kariri Njama has said he will move to court to contest United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate John Wanjiku win.

Kariri, who had conceded defeat earlier, said the election was not free and fair.

"We have all the evidence that shows the election was stolen. Our lawyers are currently filing papers as we prepare to head to court," Kariri said.

Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege, who accompanied Kariri in a meet the people tour after the election winner had been announced, said at one instant yesterday a car was seen taking 100 extra votes to the constituency tallying centre.

"Kariri yesterday was leading with close to 1000 votes, but we were shocked today to learn that our candidate chief agent was denied his request to have the votes recounted," she said.

John Njuguna Wanjiku, the flag bearer of UDA clinched the Kiambaa seat by 21,773 votes trouncing Jubilee’s Kariri Njama who garnered 21,263 votes.

A total of eight candidates participated in the election among them Evans Wainaina of the People’s Party of Kenya, Kamau Willie Mbugua an independent candidate and Muchugi Isaac Karomo of the Federal Party of Kenya.

Others were Munyinyi David Mugo an independent candidate, Muthaka Lucy Wanjiru of PNU and and Richard Njoroge of The New Democrats.
