Kenya's Rastafarians want the government to recognize them as a minority community.

In their petition, the community noted that they are just like any other religion in the country and they should be treated equally.

Ras Lojuron Jaden, the chairman of the Rastafarians Society of Kenya noted the group has a long history in the country. Despite that, they still face a myriad of challenges in the country including lack of education, poverty, and malnutrition among others.

He said that the time has reached for the government to address challenges facing Rastafarians.

The demand comes a day before they join other Rastafarians around the world to commemorate and celebrate the 91st anniversary of Coronation Day.

Rastafarians celebrate November 2nd to remember the day Ras Tafari Makonnen was crowned as His Imperial Majesty (HIM) Emperor Haile Selassie I and his wife Menen Asfaw empress in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

During the celebration, Kenya's Rastafarians will converge in their Utawal Terbanacle in Nairobi. At the ceremony, they will pray and invoke the spirit of their ancestors to teach them how to treat fellow humans and solve critical issues affecting the world.

The request by the Rastafarian to become a community comes two years after a Kenya court ruled that they should be recognized as one of the religions in Kenya.
