The Kenya Transport Association (KTA) has advised its members to increase transport charges by not less than 5 per cent.
In a statement, the association’s chairperson Newton Wang’oo said the new directive follows the rise in the fuel prices country wide.
The Monday March 14 announcement by Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) saw the price of petrol and diesel rise by ksh5.00 per litre.

Newton now says the soaring fuel prices forces an increase of transport rates in order for them to sustain their businesses.
"The kshs 5/= per litre fuel pump price increase in diesel and petrol will affect transportation costs adversely. Fuel costs contribute upto 35% of total direct transport costs and indirectly affects other costs e.g. tyres and spare parts, since they are all imported," part of his statement read.
"KTA wishes to advise transporters country wide to increase their transport rates by a minimum of 5% to sustain their businesses under the current circumstances and to circumvent a total collapse of their businesses," the statement further reads.
