Kenya Power has issued a statement apologising to Kenyans over their delay in token generation and postpaid bill payments.
In their statement on Saturday, February 10, 2024, the utility company attributed the nationwide delay to a technical hitch that was affecting both payment systems.
The company apologised to Kenyans for the inconvenience caused and promised that they were working round the clock to resume normalcy within the shortest time possible.
"We are experiencing a technical hitch which is affecting both our prepaid (token generation) and post paid bill payment systems. We are working to resume normalcy within the shortest time possible. We apologise for the incovenience cause," Kenya Power said.
Earlier, a section of enraged customers expressed devastation over the message delays.
Taking to different social media platforms, the agitated customers complained of not receiving messages after payment despite changing their payment methods.
"Nowadays M-PESA and KPLC are a huge nuisance. Normalize having cash and using airtelmoney," Haaland Sholla tweeted.
"We need a good competition to KPLC and M-Pesa. This is just so sickening," another X user Magwaz3 wrote.
The latest comes a day after Kenya Power announced a reduction in token charges in the latest review on electricity prices.
Confirming the development, Energy Principal Secretary (PS) Alex Wachira said the cost of token prices would be reduced by Ksh3.44 per unit. At the time, the PS said the drop was due to a decline in the foreign exchange adjustment rate from 6.46 to Ksh3.22.
