Kenya has lost another senior doctor to COVID-19.

Prof. Anthony Jude Were Omolo, a celebrated nephrologist, died on Saturday morning (November 21) while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.

K24 Digital understands that Dr. Were was admitted to the intensive care unit of the medical facility, where he succumbed to the contagion.

Dr. Were, 64, is survived by a wife and four children.

Until the time of his demise, Dr. Were served as the president of the African Association of Nephrology. He was also the deputy director of the East African Kidney Institute.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) on Saturday morning described Dr. Were as a “teacher and mentor to many, who leaves behind a great legacy”.
