Ministry of Health has confirmed the presence of Coronavirus' Omicron variant in the country.

The ministry revealed that it detected the country's first cases of the variant among travellers.

"We have detected Omicron variant among travellers. It is just a matter of time before it becomes the dominant variant across the world," Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said.

Kagwe said that the variant is spreading so fast that if an infected person walks into a pub, there is a likelihood that everyone within the pub would leave the pub infected.

Kagwe, however, noted that the variant doesn't come with severe sickness.

"Fortunately the only saving grace is that a lot of people are not getting severe sicknesses. A lot of it is mild headaches, fever among others," he added.

Experts have warned countries around the world against relaxing containment measures put in place to contain the spread of the virus.
