Ken Okoth’s wife, Monica, eulogized her husband as a man whose heart was always with the people of Kibra despite leaving the city slum to study abroad.

Mrs Okoth described the man whom she met 21 years ago while at the university as as a man whose heart was always at Kibra.

“He was the most intelligent, passionate, eloquent and wonderful man I ever met,” said Mrs Okoth.

In a eulogy that was disrupted midway by the entrance of Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko, Mrs Okoth kept her cool.

“I truly feel at home here in Kibra…He loved everybody and there was no greater joy for him than to see children [from poor backgrounds be able to access education],” said Mrs Okoth.

Despite getting a good education, Mrs Okoth said her husband spurned many job opportunities to serve the Kibra people.

During the memorial service held on Thursday at Moi Girls High School, Nairobi, the widow thanked political leaders who came to their aid during their most difficult time.

"Honourable Raila Odinga, senators, MPs showed great concern," said Mrs Okoth.

Mrs Okoth also thanked Kibra constituents for electing her husband twice.

"They are warm-hearted people who welcomed [me] in their homes. It's been absolutely wonderful moments," said the widow.
