A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer, who is reported to have abandoned his duty, was on Tuesday, June 28 arrested for being in possession of handcuffs illegally.

Humphrey Amos Ong ‘any was arrested in Mwango Tinga area of Nairobi after a car wash attendant reported that he found a pair of handcuffs hidden in the co-driver’s seat.

“While cleaning a black Noah motor vehicle which was driven by Humphrey, he noticed a pair of handcuffs hidden under the mat of the co-driver's seat. He alerted the police who rushed to the scene and intercepted the driver,” a police report read in part.

Humphrey is reported to have introduced himself as a naval officer based in Mtongwe but investigations by the officers revealed he was a KDF officer though he had deserted his duty.

Suspect handed to KDF for action

The military officers were informed and the suspect was handed to them for further action.

Elsewhere, in another incident in the Mlango Kubwa area of Starehe sub-county, one suspected robber was shot dead by the police after he attacked a police officer with a kitchen knife.

During the incident, police on patrol had witnessed a gang of three men armed with kitchen knives robbing two ladies who were on their way home.

The police asked the suspect to surrender, but he instead started charging at the officers which forced the officer to shoot him.

“Police officers who were on patrol spotted three thugs armed with kitchen knives confront and rob a lady who was with her two friends walking home.

"They ordered the suspect to surrender but they defied the order and one of them produced a knife and charged toward the officers which prompted the officer to shoot him dead,” the police report read.

They recovered the stolen handbag which had two phones and Ksh430 and a kitchen knife.

The body was moved to the City Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
