Police officers arrested over Sh6m Eastleigh robbery detained

Three police officers based at Kayole, Nairobi and a Cameroonian have been detained for five days to allow detectives complete investigation over robbery with violence allegations.

The four were arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers based at Pangani for allegedly robbing two victims of Sh6 million.

Corporal Wilson Cheruiyot, Daniel Kipkorir, Alex Kandie and Cameroonian national Esome Jean Baptistae were arraigned before Makadara Law Courts Principal Magistrate Stephen Jalango.

The investigating officer Isaac kiplagat sought for 10 days to complete investigations.

In an affidavit he filed in court, Kiplagat told the court other suspects who were involved in the robbery are still at large.

 He also asked the court to issue an order to compel Barwako Hotel in Eastleigh to produce CCTV footage covering the inside of the hotel and the area surrounding the hotel that was recorded on October 4, 2019.

The four suspects are alleged to have robbed Abdullahi Hussein Yussuf and Mohammed Hassan Mohamud of US$60,000 on October 4, while at the hotel.

The victims reported the robbery incident to officers in Pangani Police Station.

The court was told that two other suspects, a police constable and the gang’s informer, escaped.
