Kalonzo Musyoka's bodyguard, Sergeant Joel Kieti Kilonzi of Industrial Area Remand Prison, was attacked and robbed of his official firearm in Karen, Nairobi on Monday.

The bodyguard told police that he was accosted by an armed four-man gang just as he was walking to board a matatu to town barely half an hour after dropping off the former vice president at his home.

Kilonzi said that he escorted the Wiper leader to his home at about 7 pm and was then dropped off by Kalonzo’s driver at the Karen Country Club where he had some refreshments.

He said he left the club at 8 pm when he was accosted by the gang that was armed with a pistol and an AK-47.

As he reached for his pistol, he was hit on the head and he fell down. The gang managed to subdue him, tied his hands from behind and bundled him into an SUV.

Kilonzi said the gang then took his Ceska pistol that was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, mobile phone valued at Ksh10,000, and Ksh4,000 in cash.

The gangsters, he said, dumped on Mombasa Road at the fuel station near Hilton Gardens Hotel.

After the robbery incident, the police sergeant said he walked to the Embakasi Police Station where he reported the crime.

The matter has been referred to the Karen Police Station for further action.
