A 39-year-old man died on the spot after he was hit and run over by one of the bulls taking part in a bull fighting contest at Shitaho village in case Lurambi constituency, Kakamega County.

The deceased, Robert Atema, had joined other villagers in witnessing the much hyped fight pitting a bull alias “Ringo” belonging to Idakho central member county assembly Charles Imbai against one alias “Major” from a neighbouring village.

“Trouble began when Ringo overpowered Major who ran in circles causing a commotion upon which our son was caught in the mix where he was knocked down,” the mother to the deceased said.

Police in the region took issue with a move by the villagers to take the body to the Mukumu hospital mortuary without following set procedure that dictates that a crime scene must be visited by police officers who would make a report.

“We are recording statements from family and those who witnessed the incident while the body waits to undergo postmortem to ascertain the real cause of the death,” Kakamega OCPD David Kabena said.
