Kajiado County Referral hospital is calling on members of the public to visit the facility to identify and collect bodies of their dead loved ones that have remained uncollected at the facility.

In a public notice dated January 24, 2022, the county's public health department has given members of the public 14 days to collect the bodies before they are disposed of at a mass grave.

"This is to notify the general public and relevant authorities that the Kajiado County Referral Hospital has 14 badly decomposed bodies and have so far exceeded the 10 days provided under the public health act 242 laws of Kenya.

"The hospital hereby issues a fourteen (14) days’ notice for the bodies to be buried in a mass grave within the next fourteen days of this notice at the hospital cemetery," the notice read in part.

According to the notice signed by the County Public Health officer Simon Nyaga, eight bodies have positively been identified including that of a Tanzanian national while six are yet to be claimed.

The Tanzanian national booked under the name Len Gytonyi is reported to have died at the facility while undergoing treatment two years ago.

Four bodies were brought into the facility by police who collected them from different areas within the county. The bodies include two females identified as Mary Wangui and one who was only identified as Salome.

Only one of the bodies was booked at the facility this year with the rest dating back to between 2020 and 2021.
