A fire broke out at Kahuhia Girls National School on the evening of Tuesday, November 2.

In a video seen by K24 Digital, firefighters from Murang'a county were in action fighting the fire that destroyed a dormitory in the learning institution.

Speaking to the media, Murang'a County Commissioner Fred Ndunga said all the students are safe adding that none of the learners was injured in the Tuesday inferno.

Recently, the country has witnessed a spate of unrest within schools characterised by fire outbreaks.

The latest incident at Kahuhia girls comes just hours after the Ministry of Education directed schools to proceed on a three-day break beginning Friday, November 19.

“It has been decided that the half term break will commence on Friday, November 19, 2021. The students will report back on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.

“You are required to bring this information to the attention of all principals of Secondary Schools within your area of Jurisdiction,” the statement from the Ministry of Education to Regional and County Directors of Education read in part.
