The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has this evening cautioned residents of Witeithie area of Juja, Kiambu County against attacks by a roaming cackle of hyenas.

The investigative agency stated that the public notice was necessitated by an early morning attack by the aforesaid predators that left a 29-year-old man, who was working at a quarry, dead and his colleague nursing deep wounds.

"This caution follows a sad incident reported to police at 5:00 am today of a 29-year-old man who was mauled to death by the cackle of about 20 hyenas within Kamuthi area on his way home from Komu quarry. The victim's counterpart narrowly escaped by the skin of his teeth," the notice read in part.

The DCI has since confirmed that a multi-agency team, encompassing the National Police Service, Kenya Wildlife Service and other local law enforcement agencies, has been dispatched to mitigate the situation and prevent more deadly attacks by the predators.
