Atheist in Kenya (AIK) society secretary Seth Mahiga has resigned.

In a statement on Saturday, AIK president Harrison Mumia said Mahiga resigned as a member and secretary of the society after he found Jesus Christ.

"We wish Seth all the best in his new found relationship with Hesus Christ. We thank him for having served the society with dedication in the last one and half years," Mumia Said.

The society has subsequently declared Muhiga's position vacant and called on interested candidates to apply.

"The position of Secretary to the Society has been rendered vacant. We are calling upon Kenyan atheists who would want to join our Executive Committee to send their CVs to [email protected]," Mumia concluded.

In the 2019 census, 2.5 per cent of Kenyans reported to having no religion or specific affiliation.

AIK has since its inception pursued several campaigns in court to advocate for the scrapping of Christian education in Kenyan’s basic education curriculum and the annual National Day of Prayer.

They have also lobbied for February 17 to be declared as an atheist national holiday in the country.
