Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua is on Tuesday expected at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters for grilling over alleged Sh12.5 billion embezzlement.

The MP spent the better part of Monday evening at the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road after he was nabbed by detectives while in his city office.

A detective privy to the ongoing investigations said that Gachagua was expected to arrive at the DCI on Tuesday morning at 10 am.

“He is expected here at around 10 am where he will be grilled before a decision is made,” one of the detectives revealed to K24 Digital.

Two individuals and a mobile money transfer agent have also been listed as persons of interest in the investigations.

The MP’s bank accounts were recently frozen by investigators in relation to the ongoing investigations.

Gachagua is accused of allegedly using proxies that saw him secure tenders using 22 companies where he is the beneficiary.

Five counties, a number of government parastatals, and the Mathira Constituency Development Fund (CDF) are all believed to have fraudulent engaged the MP in the business.

Gachagua on Tuesday morning brushed off the allegations raised against him, saying that someone has in the recent days been pushing for his arrest.

“I told them that I have never seen a billion shillings in my lifetime leave alone in the seven years that they are saying. I have always involved myself in clean business,” he said.

He also asked the DCI to prepare charges and take him to court instead of pushing his prosecution in the media.

He also termed the investigation as a political witch-hunt.
