A special flight has been chartered by the Italian Embassy to evacuate its nationals who remained behind after the ban on flights due to Covid-19 pandemic.

About 200 Italian tourists were early Sunday morning evacuated from Mambrui, Malindi, Watamu and Kilifi town to Mombasa International Airport for the departure of their flight later in the day.

This comes after Italy's Foreign ministry organized two flights, one scheduled on Sunday, May 17, and the other on Thursday, May 21, take home their nationals.

Ms. Philemon Mwavala, a stakeholder in the tourism industry, said that the sector is a hard hit and many families will be affected.
