Ida Odinga Raila Odinga's bodyguard has been shot dead in Victoria Gardens Estate, Riat area within Kisumu County.

David Masaga, her head of security said the deceased was murdered at his rented house.

Sources say the suspects raided his house around 4:00 am in the morning.

Also confirming the incident, Kisumu County police commander Alphonse Kimathi told K24 Digital that the matter was reported to them at Obunga police station.

According to Kimathi, the shooting occured following an altercation between the slain officer and his attacker.

The deceased was reportedly in the company of a woman and his friend and had escorted them home.

The deceased identified as Barrack Otieno Oduor died on the spot.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital, upon reaching the estate, the suspect believed to be a manager of a club in Kisumu suddenly appeared and a scuffle ensued between them.

"In the process, the suspect disarmed the police officer and fatally shot him twice in the head and leg. His friend Donar Kajwang was also shot in the leg," police statement stated.

The suspect immediately left with firearm of the officer and a spent cartridge and bullet head of 9mm were recovered at the scene.

Kimathi revealed to us that the deceased was in the company of his friend when they met Collins Okundi, the suspect.

He said that it was at that point when Okundi started to attack them and a commotion ensued between Okundi and the deceased's friend.

"It seems like the duo had a grudge and a commotion ensued and Okundi shot Barrack fatally. We are trying to establish if Okundi had a firearm or if he snatched that of Barrack,"he said.

He also added that Barrack, the deceased, had nothing to do with Okundi and that they did not know each other either.

The police boss said they have launched investigations and are currently pursuing the culprit to make arrest.

"We have launched investigations to unearth the the reasons why the incident happened to that extent and we know that we are going to catch up with the suspect. The DCIO central police station is on it," he said.
