Deputy President William Ruto has said that he will bring back exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna.

Speaking to an international media house, DP Ruto said he will ensure that Miguna jets back to the country once he wins elections on August 9.

Miguna was deported from the country in February 2018 after taking part in the controversial swearing-in of ODM leader Raila Odinga as the people's president following the disputed 2017 elections.

Since his deportation, Miguna's several attempts to return to the country have failed after the Kenyan government declined to lift the red alerts issued against him.

Ruto now says that Miguna is a Kenyan citizen who has done nothing wrong to be exiled outside the country. He said that he will make sure Miguna returns back to the country once he clinches power in August.

“I will bring him home at once. He is a Kenyan. He has not done anything wrong. If he has done anything, he should be brought home and face the law at home,” Ruto said.

Ruto said that it was not for Kenya to host refugees yet Miguna, a Kenyan citizen, is exiled away.

Reacting to Ruto's statement, Miguna expressed his gratitude to the DP for offering him to help him but he challenged him to go the extra mile to condemn human rights abuses that have been meted on him.

“A good question, which William Samoei Ruto answered correctly. But he must go further: condemn human rights abuses, constitutional violations and disobedience of court orders,” he said.
