A middle-aged man from Embu was arrested after he was found in possession of bhang at his home.

Gaturi North Location Chief Nicasio Nyaga said that Dennis Murimi was found in possession of 200 grams of harvested bhang set for the market.

The suspect was also found in possession of 77 stems of the substance grown on his farm.

The administrator said that they raided the suspect's farm following a tip-off by members of the public.

Upon his arrest, the suspect pleaded with the authorities to set him free arguing that he uses the bhang found in his farm for personal consumption.

Murimi, a tea grower told the police together with the administrator that he does not feel comfortable working on his farms without taking bhang.

"I do not grow bhang for sale. I use them for my purposes when attending to my farms," he said.

He was, however, arrested and was booked at Kavuriti police station pending investigations.

The police also uprooted the bhang stems that were found on his farm as the police plan to use them as an exhibit in the case against him.
