A middle-aged man is currently being held at Kajiado police station over the mysterious murder of his wife.

Joseph Kamanu is the prime suspect in the murder of Rose Wanjiku, 38, who was found murdered at a lodging within Kajiado town.

Wanjiku, a mother of one, was reported missing on October 16, 2021, before her body was discovered at a lodging two days later. The guest house is just two kilometers from their home in Saeni Estate.

Kamanu who reported the discovery of his wife's body at the lodge to the police was arrested by detectives from the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers on the same day. He is suspected to be involved in the murder of his wife.

Kamanu was arrested after it was established that he and another man who has also been arrested were spotted at the lodging the day Wanjiku disappeared.

Kamanu's accomplice is said to be the man who checked in with Wanjiku at the lodging on the said day.

The deceased father, Ruphas Gacheha, 74, claims that Kamanu called him on the fateful day her daughter went missing so that he could warn her against excessive alcohol consumption.

"My daughter's husband made a strange call to me asking me to warn my daughter against alcoholism. When I asked him to send me credit so that I could call my daughter, he sent me airtime worth ksh200. When I called Wanjiku after having a conversation with him, I could not reach her on her phone. I tried calling her for two consecutive days but her phone was not going through," Gachecha said.

"It is Kamanu who called to inform me that my daughter has been found dead at a guest house," he added.

Gachecha further the couple who got married in 2008 at a church wedding has been having frequent domestic quarrels.

"The couple has severally visited my Kandara home while drunk," he added.

An autopsy exam done on Wanjiku's body did not establish Wanjiku's cause of death but it showed that the deceased had minor bruises on her hands and neck.

A detective privy to the investigations, however, hinted to K24 Digital that mobile data analysis placed Wanjiku's husband and his co-accused suspect at the scene of the crime.

"The husband has charges to answer as he has positively been placed at the scene of the crime. He is also the person who discovered her body," the detective who sought anonymity said.

The death of Wanjiku has since split her family with that of her husband as they fight over who had the right to bury her body.

"``It is wrong for our in-laws to make a conclusive judgment that my brother is involved in his wife's murder. We recognize Wanjiku as part of our family and we are ready to bury her as we await investigations of what transpired,’’ Simon Kimani said.

Wanjiku's body is currently at the Kajiado referral hospital mortuary.
