All Safaricom customers will, on Saturday, October 12, receive free YouTube bundle between 8am and 4pm to watch history-chasing Eliud Kipchoge attempt to run a full marathon in just under two hours.

Safaricom announced the freebie package on Wednesday, October 9.

The telecommunications company says the bundle will be accessed by dialing *159# upon which a customer will receive a free YouTube bundle, “allowing them to stream the entire race at no cost”.

“We are honoured to renew our commitment with Eliud Kipchoge and to support him as he races against time,” Safaricom interim CEO, Michael Joseph, said on Wednesday as the firm announced its week-long partnership with the celebrated marathoner.

“Safaricom has also dedicated its iconic M-Pesa brand in support of Kipchoge’s super-human endeavor. Over the next seven days, the company will rebrand M-Pesa to ‘Eliud 1:59’ to commemorate the challenge,” the firm announced.

Eliud Kipchoge will take part in the race in Vienna, Austria on Saturday. The race is scheduled to begin at 8am in Vienna and 9am in Nairobi.

Kenya's sports minister, Amb. Amina Mohamed, announced Wednesday that the government will erect big-screen TVs at the KICC in Nairobi for members of the public to watch Kipchoge "race against time".

Athletes who flew Kenya's flag high in Doha, Qatar in the 2019 World Athletics Championships will watch the race at the KICC, said Amina.
