Charity Kemboi, the 34-year-old woman who last Tuesday was found killed in her Government Quarters house located on Jogoo Road in Nairobi, died of suffocation, a postmortem examination conducted on Friday indicates.

Kemboi’s 8-year-old son, Allan Kipng’etich, who was also found dead in the house, also succumbed to suffocation.

The third person found lifeless in Kemboi’s house, 30-year-old Kelvin Kipkoech, alleged to be Kemboi’s boyfriend, died of carbon monoxide poisoning, an autopsy conducted at the Chiromo Mortuary by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor reveals.

Dr. Oduor said both Kemboi and her child had visible injuries on the neck and face.

Both, according to the pathologist, died after being deprived of oxygen.

“Both died from smothering,” said Dr. Oduor. Smothering, according to Cambridge Dictionary, refers to killing someone by covering their face so that they cannot breathe.

The postmortem established that Kemboi and her son died approximately a day before the third victim, Kelvin Kipkoech, passed away.

Dr. Oduor said the “advanced level of decomposition on bodies of Kemboi and her son indicated they were killed earlier compared to the third victim”.

“The gentleman’s body was fairly fresh, suggesting he died one day after the mother and child.”

Unlike Kemboi and her son, Kelvin Kipkoech died of carbon monoxide poisoning, a discovery that would likely force investigators into deep thinking, given Kipkoech was found dead while seated on a toilet with his hands tied using a laptop charging cable.

The autopsy further revealed that Kipkoech had superficial injuries in the arm and abdomen. Superficial injuries are minor bruises occurring on the surface.

DCI detectives on Wednesday cordoned off Charity Kemboi’s house, dusting surfaces of furniture and walls with the hope of capturing finger prints, which would help unravel the trio’s killers.
