Police in Homabay County have launched a search for the Occurrence Book (OB) of Asumbi Police Station after it was stolen by an unknown person from the station.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, Police Constable Jane Akite realized that the OB was missing when she was going to book a case of gender-based violence.

James Mburu, an officer who was on duty, said when he reported to work in the morning, he asked Constable James Njuguna Kareithi about the whereabouts of the book, but he could not give an account of where it was.

Kareithi said he saw it on Tuesday, August 2 at 6:00 pm when he was taking over duties from Constable Zipporah Jepleting.

Occurrence Book reported missing

“While going to book a case of gender-based violence, Constable Akite realized that the occurrence book was missing. On inquiry, no one had seen it as the officer who took over duty in the morning said he had not seen it,” the police report read in part.

A search was conducted in the houses in the station compound but it was not found.

In 2021 May, a similar incident was reported at Githunguri Police Station.

The book was lost in unclear circumstances and three officers were arrested.
