Homa Bay man arrested with three homemade guns

Police in Homa Bay County have arrested a man found in possession of three homemade guns at Ogenga village in Kasewe B Sub-Location Rachuonyo East Sub County.

The 32-year-old identified as Solomon Otieno Ojwang’ is reported to have been in ownership of two homemade pistols, one homemade gun resembling a G3-rifle and three rounds of live ammunition.

Ojwang’ was arrested last Saturday at his home in a joint operation conducted by officers from Center Sori police post and Assistant chief of Kasewe B Sub Location.

According to the area Assistant chief Hezbon Asero, the police received a tip-off from members of the public that Ojwang’ has been dealing in illegal business of homemade guns which they believed were used for criminal activities.

Speaking to journalists, the chief stated that upon entering the suspect’s home, they conducted a search where they recovered the weapons adding, “We immediately arrested the suspect and took him to Centre Sori Police Post before he was transferred to Oyugis Police Station.”

Rachuonyo East Police Commander Justus Kucha who confirmed the arrest, indicated that the suspect had been assembling the guns at his home and selling them to unknown gangsters, who carried out criminal activities in Rachuonyo East sub county and its environs.

He pointed out that the suspect was handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officers (DCIO) from Oyugis police station for further interrogations adding that he would be arraigned in court next week.
