Health officials in Sindo, Homa Bay county have cautioned residents after they confirmed 25 cases of cholera in the region.
According to the region’s Health Chief Officer, Kevin Osuri, 21 people are currently admitted to various hospitals.
He stated that the outbreak may have been caused by the use of the water from the lake.
The health official noted that the lake was infested and as such posed a threat to the lives of the locals in the region.
He subsequently cautioned the locals against using the water to avert further spread of the disease.
Another cholera outbreak
The latest comes months after health officials across the county issued an alert over reported cases of cholera.
At the time, the outbreak had been reported in three villages of the West Kasipul ward in the Kasipul constituency.
The affected villages were: Kokelo and Kasire in the Kodera North location as well as Nyimbi in the Konuong’a location.
“We must understand that cholera can be fatal and patients are encouraged to seek medication as fast as possible,” County Referral Hospital Chief Executive Officer Peter Ogolla said at the time.
