Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho got a reprieve on Tuesday after the High Court suspended his sentencing to six months imprisonment over contempt of court.

Governor Joho was scheduled for an appearance in court to mitigate his sentencing after the court found him culpable of demolishing tycoon, Ashok Doshi’s property in Changamwe contrary to a court order.

Joho, however, failed to appear for mitigation before Justice Julius Munyao.

The sentencing had been deferred by the same court after Joho filed an application seeking a stay of the verdict.

“I do issue a temporary stay of the sentence against Joho and accord him time to argue his application seeking to suspend the sentence against contempt of court,” said Justice Munyao.
