Learning is set to finally resume on Monday, January 4, with all students continuing from where they left off when schools were closed early this year to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Students should brace themselves for marathon learning for the next three years with the Ministry of Education having released school calendars for 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 to psychologically prepare learners, teachers and parents for the tough journey ahead.

The marathon school calendars were designed to ensure learners catch up and recover lost time, with education having been halted for more than six months for over 17 million students in Kenya, according to Unicef.

Completing 2020 School Calendar

Term Two studies for 2020 for pre-primary, primary and secondary schools in Kenya begin on January 4, the Ministry of Education announced in a letter to all Regional Directors of Education.

The letter seen by Mediamax Digital says primary and secondary schools will close on March 19, for seven weeks up until May 9.

Term Three studies will resume on May 10 and end on July 16, with a half-term break penciled in for June 3 to June 7.

2021 school year

After a one-week holiday, schools will reopen for 2021 Term One on July 26, for a period of 10 weeks ending on October 1, 2021, whereupon there will be a one-week holiday break before Term Two begins.

Term Two studies for the 2021 school calendar will run from October 11 to December 23, a learning period of 11 weeks.

Learners will break for a holiday on Christmas Eve until January 2, 2022, a 10-day hiatus.

The final term for 2021 will run from January 3, 2022, to March 4, a period of 9 weeks.

National examinations for 2021 candidates will be sat from March 7, 2022 to March 10, 2022 (KCPE) and March 11, 2022 to April 1, 2022 (KCSE).

Those exams will be marked and graded in a three-week period ending on April 22, 2022, just three days before studies resume for the 2022 school calendar on April 25.

2022 School Calendar

Another marathon of learning is scheduled for all learners in the 2022 school calendar beginning on April 25, 2022 for Term One studies.

Term One will last for 13 weeks, terminating on July 1, when learners will take a one-week holiday then resume studies for Term Two on July 11 to September 16, a period of 10 weeks.

Studies for the final term of the 2022 school calendar will begin on September 26 and end on November 25.

National examinations for 2022 candidates have been slated for November 28-December 1 (KCPE) and December 1- December 23 (KCSE).
