Two herdboys from Oyugis, Homa Bay County on Wednesday, January 26 discovered a body of a man who was stashed in a sack and dumped under a culvert along Oyugis-Kisumu road.

The man, who is suspected to have been killed elsewhere before being dumped in the area, was discovered by the two minors following an unpleasant smell near the place.

One of the residents claimed that two unidentified men on Wednesday morning at around 5:30 who were in a Toyota Probox were seen in the area before speeding off.

The two raised an alarm which attracted the attention of the members of the public who surrounded the place to witness.

“We don’t know the deceased and we believe he was killed elsewhere before the body was dumped here.

"Someone saw three people in a Probox car here whom we suspect might have dumped the lifeless body," one of the residents said.

Othoro Police Station OCPD Joseph Wasua said that their preliminary investigations revealed that the man was murdered before his body was dumped under the culvert.

He said they are looking for three suspects who were allegedly seen in the wee hours with a Probox near the place.

"We have launched a manhunt for the suspects who were allegedly spotted in the area in a probox vehicle and might have dumped the body," he said.

The body was taken to Rachuonyo South sub-county hospital mortuary for post-mortem as police continued with investigations.

Residents, however, expressed concern over escalating cases of insecurity in the area and asked security agencies to help them arrest the situation.

They said cases such as those of house break-ins and attacks have been reported in the recent past.

Police, however, asked residents to collaborate with security officers to address cases of insecurity.

“Let residents report to us the whereabouts of the suspects to aid their arrest. We want our people to cooperate so we can address insecurity challenges,” Wasua said.
