Heavy deployment of police officers was witnessed on Mondays, March 20 as Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition kicked off its planned mass action in Nairobi.

A spot check by K24 Digital showed there was a contingent of armed General Service Unit (GSU) officers around roads leading to State House.

Particularly, Procession Way, State House Road, and Dennis Prit Road were condoned off as the officers blocked the roads using police lorries.

In the CBD, police officers surrounded Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) where the coalition's supporters were to assemble before beginning their demos.

Parliament Road and Harambe Avenue where the Office of the President, Office of the Deputy President and a host of ministry headquarters are situated were deserted save for security personnel on guard.

The spot check also showed most Central Business District (CBD) streets were almost deserted.

Public Service Vehicles operating within the CBD were very few, while private vehicles were hardly seen.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga last week declared Monday, March 20, a "public holiday" to enable Kenyans join him in the march to State House.

Raila asked Kenyans to turn up in large numbers to “reclaim” the country from President William Ruto’s “failed” leadership.
