A group of irate parents at Sabata Primary School in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia county have stormed the school baying for the school headteacher's blood over a 'motivation fee'.

The angry parents claim that the headteacher Mary Mayende is charging unnecessary fees without issuing receipts in the name of motivating her to see their children through.

“She has introduced payments that she calls motivation fund for Standards 7 and 8 which she wants to be paid in form of chicken,” Nicodemus Wamasete said.

The parents are now foreseeing a situation where homesteads around the school will lose all the domestic birds, thanks to the teacher.

“We have 68 pupils and the headteacher wants two chickens per child as motivation fee. We are now wondering if she wants to start a chicken rearing through our children whom she claims that she has helped to pass exams yet their performance has massively dropped,” Joseph Makoti an elderly parent said.

Some of the parents are calling upon the Ministry of Education to take action against the teacher.

Apart from the chicken issue, parents also accuse the teacher of extortion and hurling insults at kids.

“If you fail to pay fees or whichever money the teacher orders, she constantly refers to your child as stupid,” Eunice Wekesa said.

Area leaders led by Kiminini ward rep David Kisaka have called upon the relevant authorities to interject and save the school.

“This is the only school in Sabata area but it lacks most of the necessary learning materials. We urge the national government through CDF and the county government to chip in,” Kisaka told K24 Digital.

Efforts to reach madam Mary Mayende were futile as she neither picked our calls nor replied to our text messages by the time of publishing this article.
