Former LSK boss Nelson Havi among 8 shortlisted for Solicitor General post

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has shortlisted eight candidates for the position of Solicitor General.

Notable persons on the list include former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi, former Jubilee Party deputy executive director and head of legal and compliance MaryKaren Kigen-Sorobit and former Kilifi gubernatorial candidate George Kithi,

Others in the race to succeed Kennedy Ogeto whose term expires in March 2023 are Kisii politician Shadrack Mose, Beatrice Meso, the former Kenya Power General Manager,  Corporate Affairs & Company Secretary, Paul Lilian, Beatrice Adhiambo Akuno and Stephen Ochieng Mallowah.

Havi, a member of President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, unsuccessfully contested for the Westlands Parliamentary seat in the August General Election.

The acclaimed lawyer finished second with 19,550 votes, behind ODM party's Tim Wanyonyi who won the seat after garnering 58,408 votes.

Kithi also to Gideon Mung'aro of the ODM party in the Kilifi governor's race.

Mose, a close ally of President Ruto in the Gusii region, equally lost the Kitutu Masaba Parliamentary seat to Clive Gisero of ODM.

The eight candidates are scheduled to appear before PSC for interviews between 13th-14th December 2022.

The President will submit the name of the successful candidate to parliament for vetting and approval.

The Solicitor General is the accounting officer at the State Law Office and Department of Justice.

The duties of the holder of the office include organising, co-coordinating and managing the administrative and sometimes legal functions of the office of the Attorney General.
