Form Four students at Nyambaria Boys High School were on Tuesday, November 9 allowed to leave the school premises due to growing tension in the school.

The candidates walked out of the institution as a contingent of police officers watched them.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital, the student from the school located in Manga Sub-County within Magombo location revealed that there has been tension in the school for the last one week.

“Students in the school were released to go home over rising tension amongst students. There has been fear of possible students unrest for the last one week,” the report revealed.

The move comes at a time when the country has witnessed a series of fire outbreaks in Secondary schools.

So far, a total of 27 schools have been burnt down and in other instances, students arrested and are set to be charged in court over the matter.

In some instances, students of other secondary schools explained themselves to school heads citing fatigue and requested to be allowed to go home.

Such is Muhoho Boys High School where students walked out of the school and informed the principal that they will communicate when they will be back.

The current school calendar is over-stretched thanks to COVID-19 pandemic.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha already has been summoned by the Senate over the wave of fires in schools.

The leadership of school heads was also summoned alongside Magoha.

The senators want to have a discussion on what should be done to stop the fires.

A section of politicians and religious leaders have also called for the return of corporal punishment.
